The Fifth Week in my TP
Week 5 Nov (8-12), 2015.
In my Fifth week at Mazyad School, Cycle 1. In grade 2 mixed (boys and girls) 2\F – 2\E. It was last week and the week was about science and math.
The week flew by like lightning, I had felt sad to leave my school mentor and my students. I spent hard time but it was a very nice experience. I like my teacher strategies that she had used.
In this week, my teacher was absent on Sunday, so I should care of students. I taught the two classes some math and English then I showed them a video about the lorax to give them background about what would be the new science outcome and I asked them some questions.
In the morning, I could manage the students very well and there was a assistant teacher with me but not the all time. However, it was very difficult to manage the second class afternoon thought the assistant teacher and I tried to do but in the end we could because we had used different strategies to manage them.
The science outcomes were about the natural environment and built environment. Math outcomes were about repeated addition and multiply.
I did guided math rotations on Tuesday, it was first time for them to rotate. my mentor teacher said she will do the rotated in term 2 because the students aren't that familiar with the activities very much and she plans to do English, math and science rotation after some months.
My guided math went very well, I did it alone and my teacher liked it much. She did it with next class. I took one center and she took another and we taught the same outcome, because it was the new.
We taught all levels and they learned multiplication by 2 very well and they didn't have any difficulty in it so far.
I like to take small group because it difficult to manage a big group I took a big group many times and I felt bad and there were some kids that made noise and they didn't learn the outcome very well. However, it is different when I taught whole class I could manage them when I taught whole class.
I had used positive reinforcement to manage the students and it worked in the end, I am very happy for that many times I was with them alone and I could manage them and taught them different subjects even I didn't prepared the subjects because sometimes suddenly happened that made me to sit with my students a lone. The teacher used variety songs to teach students about math and to make learning math fun. She had used song with dance to teach student about skip number. I liked the way to teach because the children like to sing and move, it is a kind of sport.
I liked when the teacher reminded the students about addition, subtraction and their signs (-\+) before teaching them about multiplication.
She used two chairs and cubes to teach about multiply by two. She asked students to put cubes on the chairs and she asked them.
1- How many chairs we have?
2- How many cubes in each chair?
3- How many all the cubes?
she wrote multiplication operation on the white board and she focused on the sign of multiplication. The lesson went very well.
I used plates and cubes to teach them about it and I wrote on the board after that I gave them worksheets to do it and they really did it very well. The lesson was very easy for most of the students and they said that as well.
The math lesson went easy this week and we didn't spend a lot of time to repeat it many times. I had used my notebook to monitor the students it was easy to note about the students.
Student teachers and I have prepared some students to make a show in national day. it was a nice idea and I liked it and the teachers were happy for that.
On thursday was the last day of me there, it was a bit sad day but I spent nice day with my mentor and students. As every thursday. They had spelling and math test. Before the test, the teacher reviewed them about the spelling and reminded them about the rules of test. They were silent during the test and did what they can. after that the teacher gave them school book to do two easy pages about what they took during the week as reviewed.
In the end the class, she allowed them to play any materials they wanted. They really like thursday because they have more fun in it.
It was a very nice experience, I got many great benefits and my mentor was very nice with me that helped me to do nice works. I would like to back there next semester if the opportunity allows me.
In this teaching practice I acquired new skills, increasing my contribution to the teaching and make a variety activities and building my self-esteem.
