Mentoring School Teacher reports

In this page, you can see some my lesson reports from my school mentor.

The  first lesson report

Lesson 1 : Science 14/10 describe changes in weather from season to season

This lesson was at the beginning of Maryams teaching however she had great confidence and ability in it. She began with whole class style asking about various weather types that can be found and had the children engaged and interested especially when she showed them her poster that she had made depicting different weather types and how we could represent them e.g cloudy, windy etc

She then divided the children into groups and gave them materials necessary to produce their own poster. The children were engaged and interested in the topic and were able to give feedback orally again at the end of the lesson when she asked. I also questioned the children on what they had just covered and they were confident in their answers and able to give examples of weather and what types of clothing they might wear.

The  second  lesson report

lesson 2: Math 22/10 measure, record and compare length of given objects using non standard units

In this lesson Maryam had the chance to let the children do a lot of hands on work such as using their hands, feet etc to measure e.g the length of the carpet, the length of their tables etc. However she went straight into using cubes etc to measure and the children were not as engaged as they could be. However the reason I have chosen this lesson to evaluate is because we had the chance to talk through it before the following class arrived and when she presented the lesson the next time it was so much better.

Maryam began the lesson with the children seated around the carpet and questioned them as to how she could find out how long it was, what could she use. She then used her feet to measure the distance. She then asked if she picked a child, would the answer be the same why/why not? If she were to measure the whiteboard with her hands would it be the same as if X child was to measure. Immediately the children were focused and they then proceeded to spend time measuring objects with their hands and feet. They progressed then onto cubes -using them to measure objects such as their bags, tables, each other laying on the ground and so on. It was a busy lesson but each child was able to participate and they were all engaged.

The ability in adapting her lesson from class to class was excellent.

The third lesson report

Lesson 3: English 28/10 interpret how pictures and illustrations evoke the feelings and emotions of the reader 28/10

We had been studying the Gruffalo and the children had just been exposed to how he looked and the character description of the Gruffalo. Maryam continued this by introducing segments of the video..showing various clips of the different characters and questioning the children..how does the mouse feel? Why do you think so? What will happen next etc

She also then had children act out various scenes as different characters, mouse fox owl and Gruffalo-read a little piece of the story and try show on their expressions how they might feel.

then children then were divided into ability groups where each group had a different piece of work to do based on emotions of the character.

They had to write about the feelings based on pictures, they had to match the feelings of the characters to certain pictures or they had to name the feelings.

Each task was suited to the children's various abilities and worked well as they were all able to complete the work as independently as possible.

Maryam grew in confidence and ability with each lesson she presented. I have deliberately chosen one from each subject to showcase her abilities. She had a variety of ideas and methods she employed throughout her practice. I would love to have her again and I have no doubt she will make an excellent teacher

It's a final report from my school teacher about me and my lessons.
