Journal 2

Second journal about  teaching practice

Second week, 3-7 \ May \2015.

I felt this week better and I like to be there more. I was a bit little nervous on Sunday, because it was my lesson that my college mentor would observe me.

The lesson was literacy about vocabulary. I prepared all activities and the program that I used in my lesson. I made four activities 1- Words board games 2- words wheel game 3- Secret messages 4- foam sort game. The students got interesting in the activities and learnt the vocabulary that I taught them. They wanted to use all activities, I was happy for them. I enjoyed the lesson; I did the lesson for two classes.

I learnt how I can manage the students and the students understood the lesson in the same time and they got fun. In this lesson, I used look-say approach in the opening stage. I showed them pictures and words that they did not see them before. They saw the pictures and told me what the picture meant. The lesson was a new lesson for them so, the students guess the words by seeing the pictures that encourage them to guess all the pictures "in which children were encouraged to guess words using pictures and the context of the story" (Gibb, 26 Sep 2012). I noticed that they could guess most of the words because the pictures used in their life and they have background about some of them. I see look-say approach helped the students to memorize the words because the next time they could read some words.

In addition, I taught them other lesson, it was science lesson about gravity. In the opening stage, I showed them fun video about Issac Newton. They understood what happened in the video because I explain them about gravity before showing them the video. I gave them two kind of activities. I distributed colorful papers with title (Gravity or Without gravity) they had to draw different thing in the class depend to their title on their paper if the title is gravity they have to draw the things on the ground but if the title is without gravity they had to draw the things fly. They understood and I felt happy and my teacher liked the idea as well. I taught two classes as well. The two lesson were

The teacher used positive reinforcement. She gave the students who answers or try to answer the question right jelly or biscuit that made the others to focus and thought to get the right answer. I used the way as well in my lessons according to Skinner "Positive reinforcement strengthens a behavior by providing a consequence an individual finds rewarding"  (McLeod, Skinner operant conditioning, 2015).

All the approached that my teacher uses I took it in my college with my teacher Sandra. It was not new things as for me but I could see how the approaches worked in the real life.

I am getting stronger more than before and I can manage the students even the teacher leaves me with them alone. I was with them alone one class and I taught them and I could manage them so I was very happy for that.
