Reflection 1

 

Description:

 

Mezyad Primary Circle 1, mixed gender is my school for teaching practice. It is a big school with new design. When I arrived there, many teachers welcomed me and the supervisor took us to meeting room. She gave us some necessary information and told us about the rules. She was very kind with us. Then she divided us to our class. I was with my mentor Mrs Claire, she teach grade 5 boys. I was with her.

 

Feelings:

 

In the firs week, it was very frustrated, because most of the boys are very noisy and they did not listen to teachers and to me. I thought that I could not manage them at all and I could not teach them even. However, my mentor made me confident, she always told me, Miss Maryam do not be afraid you can do better than I can. She really made me comfort.

 

Evaluation:

 

 I noticed that, the teacher uses worksheets more than authentic things, but sometimes she uses authentic things. She told me when she used authentic things the boys fight more than work. It is really and it is difficult to manage them. I shocked when I saw the boys, but I said I would do what I can for them. The boys have different levels. The teacher divided them to 5 groups beginning from the stronger to the low Blue, green, yellow, orange and red in the order. I liked the strategy, when the teacher used a smart board to show the students’ name and gave point to the good students who have a good behave, and did what the teacher asked. She used it all the time during the lessons when the students reach to 100 and over it, they will have presents also sometime she gave them stickers “Rewarding students for good behavior is a popular classroom discipline procedure” (Carmen, 2011, para. 4).  In addition, I liked the other strategy that the teacher used when the students finished the activity, they have to clean up around themselves and when they leave their chairs, they have to move the chairs under the tables. If they did not do that, the teacher asked them to do it before she started to next lesson, she did that to make the class safety.   I liked when the students interested with the activity, such as when the teacher gave them cubs and asked them to make fraction, they listened to the teacher and did the fractions which teacher said and wrote on the board. It was a nice time for me, they understood the lesson better when they did on the worksheet it “If a professor does a lot of work to prepare a great lecture and then stands up in front while the students just sit there passively trying to take it in, well, then the professor learns a lot.” He is convinced that the more faculty engage students, the deeper the students’ learning experience will be” (Coulter, 2014). I learnt in the first week, I have to be patient, the boys are still young and they have different thinks.

 

 

Analysis:

 

 In the all lessons, the teacher introduce the lesson then models after that gave them the instructions when the students sat on the carpet, then she divided them to the groups. The students knew what they have to do. The very good step, the teacher spoke to the students and she let them to speak even they want to complain, it useful for them. The students know how they said many words by themselves, when the students asked me to translate the words to their teacher I didn’t help them and the  teacher said to them you have to talk to me by yourself, so they will try and learn. The teacher gave them many activities, such as fraction worksheet, I mention it, because I think fraction is difficult for the students in their ages. After the teacher explained the fraction in general without specific, she gave them worksheets and there were many various questions, some of them were difficult. The teacher gave them the first worksheet to know if the students have background about it also to know their level in it. Next class she explained the lesson by different way and more specific, because they did not understand it well in the first time, she gave them cubes, and she wrote and said the fractions on the board. They made it by cubes. They got the lesson next time and liked it. The cubes which they use for making fractions is a good way to understand the lesson but also they need worksheet for the lesson to know how they can write the fraction and how it look like. Therefore, the teacher used a good way to teach them that. She used cubes, pictures and worksheets. In addition, she gave them time to understand the lesson well. She used different strategy for teaching the lesson. It was appropriateness. . However, in this TP I was better than before. I was not very nervous and I could manage the students in this time

 

Conclusion:

 

In this week, I did not teach whole class, but I taught groups I used Arabic sometimes. It was mistake. I asked my teacher if it was fine, she said try use English because they need to use it more. I learnt that I have to use what they need and try to attract them to use English at least in the class.

 

 

Action plan:

 

I need to improve in the management the students so I will praise them more and more and attract them by some interested things. I will try to do the opening fast and about the activity, I will bring extra activity because some students who are high levels will finish faster than low levels so I will give them extra activity.
